A WHOLE LOTTA MONEY HELPS JIMMY PAGE CHARITY
Led Zeppelin tickets auctioned on Seatwave for £44,550
LONDON, 30 November 2007: Wall Street has been battling it out with the City for VIP tickets for Led Zeppelin’s historic reunion concert – with underprivileged children the real winners.
A flurry of late bids and counter-bids from both sides of the Atlantic were pushed to £15,050 - the top price for a pair of tickets for the December 10 concert in London in a charity auction run by Seatwave, the UK’s largest on-line ticket exchange.
Three pairs of VIP tickets for the O2 Arena concert with access to the after-show party were auctioned on the Seatwave website and snapped-up at 19:00 GMT today by lucky fans from Edinburgh, London, and Georgia, USA.
The total raised, when bids closed at 7pm London time, came to £44,550 with proceeds going to The Action for Brazil’s Children’s Trust (ABC) – a charity to help the country’s most vulnerable youngsters set up by Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin’s virtuoso guitarist.
There has been unprecedented demand for the chance to see Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones play together again with John Bonham’s son in place of his late father on the drums. Over one million fans from all over the world applied for the 20,000 tickets for the concert which sold out in minutes.
Seatwave CEO Joe Cohen came up with the idea of using the firm’s website to run an action for the Page charity.
He said: “We were delighted to help. It was exciting watching the bids come in.
“Zeppelin’s army of fans have waited a long time to see the band play a full concert again so we always knew there would be a huge demand – and were thrilled to help such a wonderful cause”
The concert was put together by the surviving Zeppelin band members as a tribute to Ahmet Ertegun, the founder of Atlantic Records who died recently.
