PRESS RELEASE
LED ZEPPELIN KOs RICKY HATTON TO BECOME TOP EVENT OF 2007
London 07 January 2008 – 2007 had star quality in abundance with Led Zeppelin, Take That, Ricky Hatton and the IRB Rugby World Cup among the hottest picks in a bumper year for live events. Demand for tickets was at a premium with fans clamouring to see their idols in action.
In a year of much-hyped reunion gigs and blockbuster sporting events, supporters were willing and eager to pay top dollar for tickets. Hottest in 2007 were 70s legends Led Zeppelin, whose reunion gig generated sheer desperation from fans to get hold of these one-off tickets. Ricky Hatton’s Las Vegas fight and Roger Federer’s five set thriller against Rafael Nadal in the Wimbledon men’s final followed close behind as demand for tickets soared.
Add Shakespeare to the mix, and a sprinkling of the biggest boy band reunion yet, and 2007 was a stellar year for live events.
Joe Cohen CEO of Seatwave said: "Last year's must-see event was undoubtedly Led Zeppelin's comeback concert at London's O2 arena, with fans desperate to get their hands on a ticket.
“The price of tickets on the secondary market is increasingly becoming a great indicator of an event's popularity. More and more fans are choosing to buy from online ticket sites like Seatwave which offer a safe, secure and transparent way of buying tickets online."
In 2008, it’s new year, new rumours, and if they come true, things could be very exciting indeed. An appearance at The O2 for Michael Jackson has been mentioned; U2 have sparked a few rumours, and Oasis, in typical Oasis style, went down to the pub and told someone who told someone else that they might be touring in 2008.
On the sporting front, following their amazing successes in 2007, this year holds high hopes for Lewis Hamilton and BBC Sports Personality of the Year, Joe Calzaghe. The British and Monaco Grand Prix will be immensely popular with Formula 1 fans, and tickets for a possible Calzaghe fight with Bernard Hopkins could be priceless.
Joe Cohen added: “2008 looks set to be jam packed with even more cracking events than 2007. We can’t wait to see if our predictions prove hot or not.”
