The Fan-to-Fan Ticket Exchange

PRESS RELEASE

VOLUME OF SIX NATIONS TICKETS ON SECONDARY MARKET INCREASES; PRICES DECREASE

18 March 2008 – Seatwave.com, the UK's largest online fan-to-fan ticket exchange, has today released new figures which indicate that the volume of tickets for this year’s RBS Six Nations sold on its site increased by 556 per cent, and the average ticket price decreased by 35 per cent, compared to the 2007 competition.

This finding represents a significant shift in thinking about secondary ticketing and supports the argument that a free and open secondary market will ultimately drive down prices.

Joe Cohen, founder and CEO of Seatwave commented: “It is notoriously difficult to get hold of tickets to Six Nations games. The majority of tickets are allocated to debenture holders and rugby clubs with very few released for public sale – especially for the key ‘old enemy’ matches which are the most popular fixtures.”

This year’s most popular match, according to the number of tickets sold on Seatwave, was England’s game against France – a fixture that was one of the highlights of the tournament for a poor English side. The number of tickets for this match sold on Seatwave rose 253% per cent from 2007 and the average price fell 43 per cent from £230 to £129.

Commenting further Cohen said: “This year’s Six Nations has shown that a transparent and fair secondary ticket market is in the interest of all fans, with more tickets available at lower prices than ever before. Ticket resale is here to stay and increased restriction and regulation will only force the market underground, exposing consumers to unnecessary cost and risk, whereas it’s now clear that an open market increases availability and affordability of much have tickets.”
