PRESS RELEASE
SEATWAVE LEADS SECONDARY TICKETING INTO THE MAINSTREAM WITH STRING OF NEW DEALS
JULY 22, 2008
Seatwave, Europe’s largest fan to fan ticket exchange, today announced that it has been appointed as the official ticket exchange for legendary singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen’s UK tour in the autumn.
The deal means that fans will have the opportunity to buy and sell tickets for Cohen’s tour on Seatwave.com, and will benefit from the highest levels of consumer protection offered by the site with TicketIntegrity™ and TicketCover™ ensuring that every ticket exchanged is genuine and that fans get a full refund in the event of cancellation.
Seatwave has also renewed its partnership with London Irish RFC, and remains the club’s Official Online Ticketing Partner for the 2008/2009 season.
Under the terms of the resigned deal, London Irish will provide Seatwave with an allocation of tickets for each home match, starting from the first fixture on 15 August against Nottingham. In addition, Seatwave remains an official kit sponsor for London Irish and the club will continue to run Seatwave ads in all programmes and perimeter boards throughout home matches.
These two announcements follow Seatwave’s landmark agreement with Grand Union Management to become the official ticket exchange for The Enemy, Seasick Steve, Reverend and the Makers, Boy Kill Boy and Mongrel as well as the recent appointment of Marty Pompadur, Chairman of News Corp Europe, as non-executive director to its board.
Joe Cohen, Founder and CEO of Seatwave said, “Seatwave was founded on the notion that the way fans have traditionally got tickets is broken and our mission is to provide them with 100% piece of mind and the lowest prices in the secondary market. Our recent partnerships demonstrate that the leaders of the live event and sport industries agree with our premise and believe that Seatwave is fans’ best opportunity for a great experience. It’s now time to put to bed flawed notions like the Resale Rights Society which added nothing to the debate on how we improve ticket buying for consumers.”
Seatwave’s unrestrained growth in the past year is testament to the mainstream appeal of the secondary ticket market. By offering fans a secure and transparent environment in which to buy and sell tickets the site has seen an average month-on-month growth rate of 19% with more than 8,000 fans selling tickets on Seatwave every day. Seatwave’s strong customer protection measures have also attracted a host of partners including MSN, Time Out, Associated Newspapers, Virgin Media, the Kaiser Chiefs and Channelfly, among many others.
In 2007, Seatwave customers listed more than 1.7 million tickets for events in no less than 38 countries and Seatwave launched ticket exchanges in Germany, Holland, Spain and Italy during the last quarter of 2007.
